Oh Be Still~ Five Perspectives on the Tableau
Opening reception October 8th, 5:30-8:00
Show and sale: October 8 through January 7th

Donna Gordon Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the Fall show featuring the Still Life paintings of five premier and award winning artists; John Bayalis, Marta Crawford, Rick Reeves, John Rizzotto, and Ann Sklar.

The Still Life form has always been a fundamental genre in the art world, and its popularity is once again rising as new masters capture and breathe life and meaning into inanimate objects.
John Bayalis, a Delaware based watercolorist, is noted for his near hyper-realist style and for his skill in handling contemporary themes with a vibrant watercolor palette. His still life work is rich with detail and whimsical in its approach and invites exploration. John’s award winning work has graced the covers of National Art magazines and is critically acclaimed, including countless best in show and awards of merit.
Marta Crawford, now of Daytona, was born in Madrid. Marta’s lush and sensual oils are almost three dimensional and beg to be plucked from the canvas. In her words, “I do not paint objects. I paint souls, emotions.” Marta’s still lifes have won numerous awards including the 2011 Still life show Honorable Mention of the National Portrait Society.  Her work is in the permanent collection of The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Florida.
Rick Reeves, a Tampa native, combines exquisite detail with incredible authenticity as one of the country’s leading historical artists. Rick was initially recognized as an American Civil War Artist, but has since expanded into still life. His work will be popular with Florida university graduates as his focus right now is on the tableau of college life as well as Florida themes; whimsical, yet very serious art. Rick has had numerous one-man shows throughout the United States and is in the permanent collection of many museums including the Booth Museum in Atlanta, Brandywine Museum in Delaware as well as the Pentagon.
Seattle resident John Rizzotto is a contemporary realist painter who focuses on the still life form. His carefully composed compositions recall the Spanish and Northern European masters, while his subject matter is decidedly modern. John’s primary concerns are capturing light and form and, in his words, “exploringthe endless possibilities of composition.” John’s work is collected nationally and has been widely published.
Ann Sklar divides her time between Maine, Philadelphia and Florida. Known for her abstract landscapes, Ann has very successfully put together a collection for this show of abstract still life work that is both haunting and vibrant with her trademark use of color and line to create a mood. She has won acclaim in the abstract landscape genre, most recently, First Place in the Bold Brush Painting competition.

Donna Gordon Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo show featuring the artwork of Jane Chapin.

In this show Ms. Chapin brings a wonderful collection of representational work in oil on canvas and board that grows from observing and interpreting light as it emerges from, surrounds and reflects on everyday people and scenes. Ms. Chapin’s paintings seek to remind us of the beauty of our common surroundings, regardless of where we are.

“Painting sensitizes me to look for the grace and dignity and order in what I see. My goal as an artist is to reinforce and restore that sensitivity to the viewer.”
                                                Jane Chapin

In 2007, Chapin began a three year project of painting on location and writing a chronicle of her travels in each state, eventually publishing “Land of the Free” as a charitable donation to American veterans. The book will be available for sale during the show and all proceeds benefit American Veterans.

Originally from rural Pennsylvania, Jane Chapin received her Bachelor of Fine Art from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. Ms. Chapin was an art teaching volunteer in the Peace Corps in El Salvador, reinforcing her connection with the richness and diversity of her visual surroundings.  She returned to teach in the US before becoming a professional painter.
